Employee Benefits

Life & Disability

Most employees don't think about this coverage until they need it.

In plain English

Group life insurance pays a benefit to an employee's beneficiaries if they die, and disability insurance replaces part of their income if illness or injury keeps them from working.

What we offer

We place life and disability with leading ancillary carriers, either as a core employer-paid benefit or as voluntary coverage employees can buy.

  • Group term life and AD&D, usually employer-paid
  • Voluntary term life for employees and spouses
  • Short-term disability
  • Long-term disability

Why disability deserves attention

An employee is far more likely to miss months of work because of an illness or injury than to need a life insurance payout. Short-term disability covers the first stretch, often including recovery after childbirth. Long-term disability takes over if the absence goes on.

Most people have no savings plan for that. A modest employer-paid policy can matter a great deal to the person who needs it.

“PAKG was able to take our age-based small group plan to a level-funded plan that resulted in a massive cost savings to both our company and every single enrolled employee.”
Jessica G., Director of Operations

Things to decide

Benefit amounts, waiting periods and whether premiums are paid with pre-tax or after-tax dollars all affect what employees actually receive. The tax treatment in particular changes whether a disability benefit is taxable, so we explain it before you choose.

We also look at how much voluntary life an employee can buy without health questions, which matters most at initial enrollment.
